Spanish Flame impressed winning by 6 lengths at Roscommon last month and could be a nice prospect going forward but this won’t be easy giving weight away. Aidan O’Brien’s juveniles are operating at a 37% strike rate in Ireland this season and PORTLAND looks the type to do better with that debut run under his belt. He was only beaten a length and a half and this son of Dubawi should know a lot more now. He will improve and should serve it up to the favourite. It might not only be a two-horse race though as debutants Versatile and Bremen are also noted. The latter is by Galileo and will definitely be worth a market check. Of the rest Chicago Fireball was a place behind the selection at the Curragh so also enters calculations on that.

Obviously a few unknowns in this with half the field debutants but CLOUD FREE showed more than enough on debut to suggest he will be hard to beat. This Sea The Stars colt was denied just a neck on debut at Beverley with the penny dropping late. He is sure to improve off the back of that initial run and I expect him to be popular in the betting. Vaha is the most experienced in the field and he ran well beaten a head at Lingfield. If he steps forward from that he could be the danger. Of those having their first start on a racecourse New Bay colt Compton Bay probably makes most appeal. He is a half brother to 3 winners and if forward enough for this could get competitive. Marefuori is by Australia and is another one that could show up well but will likely need it.
