Mr Wagyu is respected dropping back down in grade but preference goes to Rock Of England (best priced at 5/1) who has shown improvement on his previous two starts in blinkers. The Ed Bethell trained three-year-old won on his debut over this course and distance last season showing that he handles the track and he comes into this race in good recent form.

Rock Of England won by four lengths at Hamilton on his penultimate start when fitted with first time blinkers before finishing a close 2nd at Ripon last time off a mark of 80. The handicapper has raised the gelding 2lbs for that effort but he gets to run off a mark of 80 again meaning he is 2lbs “well in” at the weights and I expect him to be involved in the finish.

The Simon Hodgson trained Tralee Hills (best priced at 3/1) won this ‘Ladies’ Derby’ in 2021 and he should hold strong claims again this year. Serena Brotherton has a fantastic record in this type of races as shown when winning at Pontefract on Unplugged on Monday and she partners this gelding for the first time this season.

Tralee Hills won this race by 5 ½ lengths off a mark of 67 before following up at Salisbury off a mark of 74. He runs in this race off a mark of 75 this year having won at Bath last time off a mark of 71 and he should prove hard to beat with the overnight rain helping.

The Rod Millman stable have been in good form recently and I am hoping Amazonian Dream (best priced at 10/3) can win this race for a second year in a row. The four-year-old won this race last season off a mark of 80 and following some below par efforts since, he runs in the race this year off a 4lb lower mark.

Amazonian Dream bounced back to form last time in first time blinkers when 2nd by ½ length at Ffos Las off a mark of 76. The handicapper has raised him 2lb for that run up to a mark of 78 meaning that he runs here 2lbs “well in” at the weights and I expect him to prove hard to beat in this race.
