I have this between the top 2 in the betting and preference is for the promising MERLIN THE WIZARD. I have been with him the last twice and see no reason to abandon him now. He made all in good style before always doing enough at Kempton last month and then followed up impressively back on turf on handicap debut at Ffos Las last time. He is up 6lb but looks a horse ahead of his mark for now and with further improvement to come he should be able to complete the hat-trick. New Business impressed opening his account at Kempton last time and with potential to do better looks the danger but back on turf now handicapping he will likely need to progress again. Novus got her head back in front at Goodwood and was far from disgraced at Royal Ascot last time so is also respected.

The way BITS AND BOBS won on debut at Leicester really was quite taking and I thought he was a bit unlucky when trying to follow up at Chester. He really ran on strongly at the death but was just given a bit too much to do in the end and couldn’t peg back the winner. He is improving all the time and with more to come should get back to winning ways and make it 2 from 3 here. Jungle Mate made a bright start winning by a neck on debut at Hamilton and if stepping forward again could emerge as the danger. Ganesha won on debut and that has worked out well but he was down the field in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot albeit starting slowly. This is easier so he is another one that could get competitive so is respected too. Flying Fletcher is the only debutant in the field but is best watched unless heavily backed.
