Steve Ryder is back with three tips from today's action.
17:00 Southwell
The consistent Basford is respected off top weight in this race but at the prices I am willing to take a chance on IMPERIAL DATA (best priced at 15/8) who should be suited by this step up in trip on his handicap debut. The Rebecca Menzies trained six-year-old won an Irish PTP in April by a length before running well to finish 2nd in two novice/maiden hurdles at Hexham.
Both of those runs came over 2m4f so this step up in trip to 3 miles should suit Imperial Data on his handicap debut and I expect him to prove hard to beat with Brian Hughes retaining the ride.
17:25 Wolverhampton
This looks a competitive 0-60 apprentice handicap but preference goes to LETHAL TOUCH (best priced at 3/1) who boasts a solid record over this course and distance. The Joe Parr trained four-year-old finished 2nd off a mark of 54 over this course and distance in October before winning a couple of weeks later off a mark of 57. He struggled in better company at the likes of Chelmsford, Lingfield and Southwell but ran well last time at Newmarket when 3rd beaten only 1 ¾ lengths following 133 days off the track.
This return to Wolverhampton should suit Lethal Touch well and he gets the assistance of top amateur rider Simon Walker in this race. He is well handicapped off a mark of 58 and can hopefully get back to winning ways here.
18:30 Wolverhampton
MAGIC GEM (best priced at 4/1) won over this course and distance on his stable debut for David Griffiths and he should hold strong claims off a 2lb higher mark. The five-year-old showed consistent form on the AW last year for David Brown with form figures of 52221 before defying odds of 16/1 to win over this course and distance a month ago despite returning from a 480 day break.
Magic Gem has had a month break since his latest run so that will hopefully mean he avoids the bounce factor and he should hold strong claims off only a 2lb higher mark.
