Following a 2/1 winner yesterday, Steve Ryder is back with three tips for today's action.
16:20 Wolverhampton
Both Mudlahhim and MOSTALLIM (best priced at 2/1) are “well in” at the weights for this 0-55 handicap but preference goes to the latter who escapes a penalty for his recent Newcastle success. The Mick Appleby trained six-year-old was rated 65 when victorious at Kempton in September and he had dropped down to a mark of 57 when winning at Chelmsford a week ago.
Mostallim won easily by 4 ¼ lengths that day when making all in an apprentice handicap under Christian Howarth. The handicapper has raised the gelding 7lbs for that effort up to a mark of 64 but he in fact runs here off a mark of 55 means he is now 9lbs “well in” at the weights. Christian Howarth also gets claim 5lb in this race and he should prove hard to beat from Stall 1.
17:40 Bangor-on-dee
This 0-120 handicap chase contains four previous winners but preference goes to GOLD LINK (best priced at 7/2) who should hold strong claims under a 7lb penalty. The Emma Lavelle trained seven-year-old had a wind operation in June and he was a well supported 9/4 favourite when unseating on his next start at Worcester.
Gold Link made up for that mistake last time at Stratford when winning easily by eight lengths off a mark of 113 and the handicapper has raised him 9lb for that victory. He instead runs here under a 7lb penalty which means he is 2lbs “well in” at the weights and I expect him to prove hard to beat off top weight.
18:10 Musselburgh
This looks a competitive 0-65 handicap but preference goes to last year’s winner POINT OF HONOUR (best priced at 5/1) who comes into the race following a comfortable victory at Catterick last month. The eight-year-old had struggled for form when trained by Phillip Makin but ran well on his stable debut for Craig Lidster when 3rd at Ripon on his first start for 264 days.
Point Of Honour stepped forward from that stable debut to win at Catterick 16 days ago by 2 ¼ lengths at the finish under Miss Pippa Brown. That victory came off a mark of 46 and despite running here off a 4lb higher mark, he should hold strong claims of a repeat victory in this race.
