Too Darn Hot colt MAGSOOD could be worth backing to make the breakthrough at Beverley on Wednesday. He shaped like a nice horse on debut at Kempton finishing third having been held up. He stepped forward from that up to this trip for the first time to finish third at Newmarket. He was keen that day though and went forward which I don’t think suited. If he can settle better in this bigger field I think we’ll see a much improved performance. He is obviously bred to be pretty useful and I’m hopeful he can take another step forward. The danger is likely User Amistoso as he needed the experience when fourth on debut and improved to finish second at Doncaster. With more to come he should ask a few questions of the selection.

It was a shame to see RUNNING LION run so poorly in France back in June. She went into that race chasing a five-timer but she got caught wide throughout and did too much in the early stages. The way she finished though it wouldn’t be hugely surprising if she was lame as her win over that sort of trip at Newmarket in the Pretty Polly was so impressive so it can’t have been the distance. She has been given time since and hopefully we’ll see her bounce back here. She still retains a lot of potential and this looks a good opportunity. The danger could be the class dropping Caernarfon who finished behind Al Husn in the Nassau and will find this much easier. Her third to Soul Sister in the Oaks stands out and she wasn’t disgraced at Royal Ascot either so definitely respected.
