GYTO Saturday Notebook Double

I was really impressed with the way TROPICAL ISLAND won over 5f here on debut. She still looked green in the race and had to wait for the gaps to appear before coming through. She made up a lot of ground quickly and looked a nice prospect. She could only finish fifth at Glorious Goodwood next time but she was drawn away from where the action materialised and I think she had excuses. Back at this venue and stepping up to 6f now she could easily improve again and I’m keen to keep her on side for now despite that blip last time. The Coffee Pod shaped well beaten just a length on debut at Nottingham and with natural improvement will be one of the dangers. Cuban Slide is also capable of better and should get involved.

The money came for Saxon Warrior filly LADY WULFRUN over C&D last week and she made no mistake making a winning handicap debut. That was her first try up to 7f and she moved through the race confidently before always doing enough. The runner-up Miss Roberts ran a big race in second for Ed Walker and that pair came readily clear from the rest with the field well strung out. She is up 6lb but is clearly going to improve again and looks well placed to follow up. Expensive Queen made a winning start scoring at Haydock last month and was entitled to struggle pitched into Listed company last time. If bouncing back she could be the biggest danger in here. Crocus Time is another one expected to do better at some point.
