I thought OPTIVA STAR was a bit unlucky to get chinned at Epsom so it was good to see him improve again to win over C&D last time. That was a career best and given the form has been franked already with the fourth Local Bay winning next time out he looks to have a great chance of following up here. He is only 4lb higher and should remain ahead of the assessor for now. Spanish Mane has also won over this C&D and arrives here having won 2 of her last 3 starts so looks the danger. She finds plenty off the bridle and should make the selection fight at least. Of the rest Storymaker is still fairly unexposed but will need to build on that Salisbury run to have a chance as that bare form doesn’t look good enough.

After a string of consistent efforts it was good to see TURNER GIRL back in the winners enclosure at Newcastle at the start of the month. She knuckled down well for pressure and was always holding subsequent winner Tafsir at the line. A 4lb rise looks manageable and as long as she handles this sharper track I think she can follow up. Oisin Murphy has been booked and that would have to be eye-catching and another sign of confidence. Robusto won 2 of his first 3 starts this season but has been beaten the last twice when well backed and needs to do better off the same mark. He might still be the danger though as this seems to lack strength in depth. Alshadhian didn’t show much last time but up in trip for handicap debut also needs to be respected and the market could be revealing to his chance.
