Following an 8/1 place yesterday, Steve Ryder is back with three selections for today's action.
14:25 Chelmsford
Despite a wide draw in Stall 15, I am surprised that RUN BOY RUN (best priced at 8/1) is available at such a big price in this race following his encouraging debut earlier this month. The Richard Spencer trained two-year-old outran odds of 22/1 to finish 2nd to an impressive winner of a strong Newmarket newcomers maiden.
Run Boy Run was quickly into stride that day so he is expected to be able to get a good early position despite a wide draw. Emperor’s Star sets the standard based on his debut run but he needs to bounce back from a poor Sandown run and therefore Run Boy Run looks a strong each way contender with up to four places available.
17:06 Bath
This looks a weak 0-65 handicap but preference goes to EYE OF THE WATER (best priced at 10/3) who has a good record over this course and distance. The Ronald Harris trained seven-year-old has form figures of 4315312 over this course and distance in his career including two successes this season off marks of 60 and 62.
Eye Of The Water finished a close 2nd last time over this course and distance under a 4lb penalty and he races here in theory off a 1lb lower mark of 65 in this race. Many of his rivals are struggling for recent form so I expect him to prove hard to beat.
18:15 Newcastle
The Tom Dascombe trained DAN DEE PRINCE (best priced at 11/2) makes his AW debut in this race but he should run well from 2lbs “well in” at the weights. The two-year-old has shown improved form since being fitted cheekpieces in handicaps including when a close 2nd on handicap debut at Pontefract in July.
Dan Dee Prince defied odds of 25/1 to win easily by 2 ¼ lengths at Leicester a week ago off a mark of 64 and he runs here under a 6lb penalty. The handicapper has raised him 8lbs up to a mark of 72 so he is 2lbs “well in” in this race and he should run well.
