Leg 1 Selections: Circe, Lasting Love, Morning Light

The opener is a difficult race to unravel with most of these yet to run. However, CIRCE shaped with promise when third on debut and could improve enough to put her experience to good use against mostly newcomers.

Of the debutant's mind, Andrew Balding’s LASTING LOVE, the mount of Oisin Murphy, and Ralph Beckett’s MORNING LIGHT, who will be ridden by Ryan Moore, appeal most and are therefore worth inclusion.

Leg 2 Selections: Kingdom Of Riches, Local Hero

Held in high regard by connections, KINGDOM OF RICHES looked a horse with a serious amount of ability when second on debut at Ascot, where he travelled well for one with no initial experience and stuck to the task to only find the already-experienced Indian Run too good.

The winner subsequently won a warm-looking Group 3 race at York, so the form is strong and he made no mistake in going one place better at Leicester last month as well. Open to any amount of improvement, Ralph Beckett’s charge is worth his place in the line-up.

LOCAL HERO looked very exciting on debut at Kempton, where he showed plenty of professionalism for a newcomer in which he won by five widening lengths and warrants respect.

Leg 3 Selections: Inquisitively, Toca Madera

INQUISITIVELY has displayed race-by-race progress, finishing second on debut at Windsor before a solid third in the Windsor Castle and then taking a Listed race at York. The ground is a question mark but he remains a smart prospect and could be extremely competitive.

One at a big price who cannot be taken lightly is TOCA MADERA who has placed in a pair of Group 2 events the last two times, two pieces of form that have worked out well. He was only a head behind subsequent Group 2 winner Lake Forest at Newmarket and was third behind subsequent Group 1 winner Vandeeek last time. He is interesting now dropped back to five furlongs.

Leg 4 Selections: Trueshan

TRUESHAN has returned a beaten favourite in both starts this year but it is too soon to be writing him off and the soft ground here will suit plus he came close to beating Coltrane in this last year on quicker ground off level weights. He will get 3Ib this time and is a fresher horse of the pair too. On the back of wind surgery with lots going for him, he gets a confident vote.

Leg 5 Selections: Legendary Day, The Goat

LEGENDARY DAY has some very good form to his name, notably his keeping on third at York last time, as well as his fourth in the Northumberland Vase at Newcastle under a big weight. He will relish the potentially stamina-sapping contest and Mark Winn takes 3lb off.

THE GOAT is pitched into this handicap off the same mark of 93 as when sixth in the Melrose plus he is in receipt of 10lb in weight for age from every rival in the field with conditions up his street. Before his latest start, he was only a nose behind Middle Earth at Kempton and makes plenty of appeal here.

Leg 6 Selections: Cherry, Mistressofillusion

None of the sextet can be dismissed, as all of these have valid claims. I am going to nominate CHERRY as the main pick though, who placed in her first four starts before opening her account impressively at Goodwood last time. She is back up in trip here and makes her handicap debut off what could be a lenient mark, so she definitely goes on the shortlist.

Stablemate of Cherry - MISTRESSOFILLUSION - wasn’t far into third in a good handicap at Newmarket last time and could raise her game in first-time cheekpieces. She has not yet tackled soft ground but should be fine on it and the drop in trip could be a good move. She should be thereabouts but I expect her shorter-priced stablemate to take the beating under Ryan Moore.
