Sunday Racing Tips from Steve Ryder

This looks a competitive 0-75 handicap but preference goes to the Sean Woods trained Ayyab (best priced at 5/2) on her handicap debut. The three-year-old has improved with each of his four career starts including when only beaten 1 ¼ lengths when 3rd at Newmarket on her penultimate start. 

Ayyab was only beaten four lengths when 2nd at Nottingham last time behind the now 93 rated King Lear so she looks well handicapped off an opening mark of 75. Tom Marquand takes over on board for the first time which is a positive and she should prove hard to beat. 

Nine Tenths will no doubt prove popular on her handicap debut but preference instead goes to Zouky (best priced at 4/1) who has a good record on turf. The Philip McBride trained filly has form figures of 1101 on turf with her only disappointing effort coming in a Class 2 handicap at York on her penultimate start. 

Zouky bounced back from that effort to win at Newbury last time off a mark of 82 and she is deserving of a 5lb rise for that 2 ¼ length success. That was a career best performance over 7f that day and I expect her to be able to follow up over the trip.

For connections of 1000 Guineas winner Cachet (best priced at 9/4) to run her again following 457 days off the break means they must be hopeful of adding another Group 1 to her CV. The George Boughey trained four-year-old has a good record fresh (won on debut and the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes on her reappearance) so the layoff isn’t a huge concern.

She beat subsequent Group 1 winner Prosperous Voyage and Oaks winner Tuesday in the 1000 Guineas last season before finishing only a head 2nd in the French 1000 Guineas on her next start. 

Cachet hasn’t run since finishing 5th at Royal Ascot in the Coronation Stakes but this represents a drop in class back down to Group 3 level. She is top rated by 6lbs over Magical Sunset who meets her off level weights and I will be disappointed if she is beaten with Ryan Moore on board.
