Following 13/8 (10p R4) and 6/1 winners yesterday, Steve Ryder is back with three selections for today's action.
13:50 Newmarket
Tarawa (best priced at 7/1) becomes Dermot Weld’s only second runner at Newmarket this season and she looks overpriced in this listed race based on her official rating of 104. The three-year-old has been running consistently well so far this season in defeat with form figures of 242325 including when only beaten 3 lengths by stablemate Tahiyra in the Irish 1000 Guineas.
Tarawa is rated 104 which is the same as fellow three-year-olds Coppice and Queen For You but she is a much bigger price. Cheekpieces replace the visor she has worn on her previous two starts and she should run well with four places widely available.
17:25 Haydock
The Darryll Holland trained Pearl Eye (best priced at 4/1) has an impressive record and Haydock and hopefully he can add a fourth course and distance win this season. The three-year-old has form figures of 1131 at the track including a victory here on his penultimate start off a mark of 79.
Pearl Eye ran well to finish 2nd at Chester last time when unsuited by the track and he should hold strong claims back at Haydock off the same mark. Ben Curtis, who is 2/2 on him, is back on board and he should prove hard to beat.
20:00 Newcastle
This looks a competitive 0-75 handicap but preference goes to the top weight Eldrickjones (best priced at 10/3) who runs under a 5lb penalty. The Roger Fell & Sean Murray trained four-year-old won over 7f here 10 days ago off a mark of 73 on his first run since a wind operation shaping like this step back up in trip to a mile would suit.
The handicapper has raised Eldrickjones 6lbs for that 1 ¾ length victory but he instead runs here 1lb “well in” under a 5lb penalty and he should prove hard to beat with Jonny Peate retaining the ride.
