Baez has a tough task from 6lbs out of the weights so preference goes to EMIYN (best priced at 5/1) who has a fantastic record at Chester. The Declan Carroll trained six-year-old has form figures of 14242171 at the track with his 7th placed finish this year coming when only beaten 4 ½ lengths in the Chester Cup. The gelding won this race last season off a mark of 85 under Zak Wheatley before winning here in July over 1m6½f off a mark of 87.

Emiyn runs here off a career high mark of 92 but this track suits his front running tactics and he has the plum draw in Stall 1.

Both Captain Dandy and Mr Trevor come here off the back of victories last time but they may struggle to beat last year’s winner HURSTWOOD (best priced at 4/1). The Peter Niven trained six-year-old is a three-time course and distance winner off marks of 59, 58 and 55 and he runs here off a mark of 59 so he looks competitively handicapped.

Hurstwood had previously struggled at York and Catterick off marks of 62 and 60 but bounced back to form when 3rd by ¾ length off a mark of 59 earlier this month. He runs here off the same mark and should prove hard to beat with Paul Mulrennan back on board.

The Jack Jones trained THE WAITING GAME (best priced at 5/2) is unbeaten in her three starts over 6f and should prove hard to beat in her bid for a four-timer. The four-year-old has won impressively over this course and distance twice this season by 3 ¾ lengths off a mark of 46 and by 3 ½ lengths off a mark of 51. She followed up those victories with an easy win at Southwell off a mark of 60 a month ago and she has had a 33 day break since.

The handicapper has raised The Waiting Game 7lbs for her latest victory which is fair and she should prove hard to beat from Stall 5 with Kevin Stott taking over on board.
