Course specialist Ayr Poet returns to a more suitable trip after a near-miss over 1m4f at Hamilton last week and should go well off a 2lb lower mark, but the progressive STAR START is just preferred. The penny has really dropped for the Rebecca Menzies-trained gelding, who made it two wins from his last three starts when scoring over this trip at Beverley last week and he escapes a penalty for that apprentice handicap success. Montevideo is respected on her handicap debut.

Master Zoffany has to be respected following his win at Chester a month ago, while similar comments apply to William Dewhirst and Autumn Festival following their recent victories. That said, preference is for ABDUCTION, whose recent effort in the Silver Cup at this venue can easily be forgiven. Prior to that, the five-year-old was not disgraced in a valuable race over 7f at Ascot and a reproduction of that form would give him a big chance.

KALGANOV (second) had Jkr Cobbler (third) behind over C&D on his penultimate start before following up that effort with victory at Redcar. The son of Gutaifan looks to have been found another golden opportunity to strike. As for the latter, he recorded a hat-trick prior to his defeat last time and can get involved once again. Of the remainder, New Tycoon makes the most appeal on his first start for the Liam Bailey yard.

The consistent MONHAMMER is a specialist at this intermediate trip and, as a previous C&D winner, he ticks the right boxes given his proven versatility with regard to the ground. David Allan also knows how to get a good tune out of the selection and he could be the one to beat today. Alpine Sierra and First Greyed are a couple of others with respectable course form, while Purple Martini still has relatively low mileage and can figure off just 2lb above his last winning mark.

He is versatile in regards to trip and has won four times at this track, three of which have come over this trip.
