Leg 1 Selections: Intervention

INTERVENTION has not won for the best part of over a year but has produced a sequence of placed efforts off higher marks in stronger company than this since and the combination of cheekpieces plus a hood could revitalise a winning performance that he is capable of delivering in a race of this nature. He is also drawn nicely in stall 4, so could offer some value against his stablemate.

Leg 2 Selections: Mbappe

Super Schwartz was marginally ahead of MBAPPE when the pair filled first and second at Chelmsford but the latter is 3Ib better off at the weights here and that might be enough to see him reverse the form. A lower draw would have been better but he should still go very well with most of the remainder struggling for form at present.

Leg 3 Selections: Al Saif

A decent novice stakes’ race for the grade and the one I like the look of is the Roger Varian-trained AL SAIF who ran promisingly when fifth of 14 at Newbury. That form is working out well so, with improvement to come, he must have in-the-frame possibilities at the very least here.

Leg 4 Selections: Green Power

GREEN POWER capitalised on a career-low mark to win over course-and-distance two weeks ago and although he is back up another 3Ib, he has other course winning form off higher marks alongside placed efforts. He must be shortlisted as he is recognised as the most likeliest winner despite carrying the welter-burden off top-weight. He is the best horse in the field and should be favourite.

Leg 5 Selections: Oh Herberts Reign

OH HERBERTS REIGN normally competes in stronger races than this and was far from disgraced when fifth in the Leger Legends last time. He was beaten just a whisker in this grade on his penultimate start and is only a pound higher for this assignment. He isn’t best drawn in stall 11 but has some of the best form in the field and can find a way to be competitive.

Leg 6 Selections: Saint Alessio

A speculative vote goes to debutant SAINT ALESSIO who has a smashing pedigree and the booking of James Doyle catches the eye. I don’t think any of those with experience set a tall standard, so from a decent slot in stall 5, David Simcock’s only runner on the card could pose a major threat. He could be the answer.
