UK Horse Racing Tips: Wexford

Gordon Elliott was quoted as saying that DEE CAPO "might be a very nice horse" after he ran away with a Galway bumper, so he is one to take seriously on his hurdling debut. That victory on testing ground will stand him in good stead as the going in Wexford is likely to be very deep. Poets Cottage was far from outclassed in maiden hurdles won by very useful sorts in Navan and Cork last winter, so he enters the equation. Maxi Mac Gold attracted plenty of support before finishing fourth on debut in a bumper at Thurles in March. His trainer Paul Nolan and jockey Sean Flanagan teamed up for a maiden hurdle success at Galway on Saturday. Second reserve The Passing Wife is a point-to-point winner to note.

A very tight contest. ME WEE BONNIE LASS brought up plenty of bets with a strong finish to plunder a mares' maiden hurdle on debut at Downpatrick in July. She had a subsequent mares' maiden hurdle winner behind her in third, and should have a future in this discipline. Conyers Hill enjoyed testing conditions in Clonmel as he sluiced home by eight lengths. If ridden patiently again, it isn't difficult to see him passing plenty of horses at the business end. Skradin was another wide-margin winner in Fairyhouse at the start of the month and deep ground plays to his strengths. Gwan Tadhg is in terrific form (three wins from his last four starts), but would prefer better ground.

SHOWMAN put it all together to win by a neck at Roscommon in September and he can build upon that, particularly as the runner-up franked the form with a decisive victory in Downpatrick. Our Uncle Jack was a ready winner of a Tramore maiden hurdle and looks sure to give Ben Harvey a good spin. Our Bobby tends to run this track well and delivered over 2m here in July last year. He is in a consistent vein of form. Mullins Cross has the ability to get into the mix off a light weight.

Very little meaningful recent form to consider. THE FLYING SPUR has contested four big-field maidens and on each occasion had more horses behind him than in front of him. He was last seen finishing sixth at Naas in December and a whole host of winners have come out of that race. Cut in the ground holds no fears for him and a rating of 105 gives him every chance of getting off the mark in this company. Quest With Speed is rated just 1lb inferior to The Flying Spur, which gives him claims. His fourth at 125/1 in a Punchestown maiden hurdle in January was a creditable effort. Whotookthebiscuit wouldn't be one of the brighter lights in Henry de Bromhead's stable, but she is a lightly-raced sort and a recent sixth in Limerick wasn't a bad effort.

Connections of all four horses will believe they are in with a shout of landing this Listed prize. IDAS BOY has a more than decent record off a break, which will help him as he returns to action after almost a year off. He wasn't at his best when last seen pulling up in a Grade 2 novice chase at Punchestown but, prior to that, had been a close second in a Grade 3 novice chase in Cork. Joyeux Machin could be the one to profit if Idas Boy is rusty. He enjoys Wexford and delivered in a rated novice chase here in September. Senecia gave the odds-on favourite a fright in Grade 3 class at Punchestown, and connections opt for this longer trip after that staying-on effort over an extended 2m2f. Effernock Fizz receives weight from her rivals and could be lively with 10st 2lb on her back.

An excellent, deep beginners' chase. Henry de Bromhead's INTHEPOCKET was classy over hurdles and stayed on well when landing a Grade 1 at Aintree in April. He has always looked like he would have the scope for the bigger obstacles. Inothewayurthinkin met some real top-notch horses in Grade 1 hurdles last season and should have a bright future over fences for Gavin Cromwell, who is firing in plenty of winners. Sandor Clegane was a real credit to Paul Nolan over hurdles. He was more than adept at mixing in Grade 1 company, being placed at Leopardstown and Cheltenham, and is another exciting recruit to the chasing ranks. Cian Collins has been making his mark in the training ranks, helped in no small part by Mighty Tom, who was an impressive winner of a Listed handicap hurdle at Killarney in May. Imagine adds further spice to the mix.

RAINBOW TRAIL looks a likely sort on track debut for Gordon Elliott. This five-year-old filled the runner-up berth in a Corbeagh House point-to-point in December last year, and the winner has since proven good enough to win a maiden hurdle at Gowran Park. Apple's Of Bresil was only 3/1 for his debut in a Punchestown bumper in April, but finished seventh. He is highly likely to improve from that run. Typhoon Flyer was a market springer in Listowel and showed ability in third, so shouldn't be underestimated. Patrick Mullins is an eyecatching booking for The Night Agent, who must be checked for market strength. Citizen Dan, Bonavena and Quint Major are all newcomers who could get involved.
