Jonjo O'Neill's charge was going away at the line on that occasion and a 7lb rise doesn't appear out of his reach. Hermino Aa was improving nicely when last seen winning over hurdles at Warwick in March and he isn't ruled out of continuing that progression over the larger obstacles, while Jipcot can be seen to better effect.

Boothill landed a valuable handicap over C&D on just his second start over fences in November last year and followed that up by taking the Wayward Lad at Kempton over Christmas. The eight-year-old returns on a mark that he is likely to be competitive off, but a chance is taken on FRERE D'ARMES. His early-season form last year was especially strong, beating Haddex Des Obeaux at Kempton before winning a Newbury contest that worked out well, and he had excuses when returning after an injury in the spring. Saint Segal, Red Rookie and the veteran First Flow are others likely to enter the reckoning.

Soldierofthestorm sets the standard following his decisive victory at Warwick in May, but he may struggle to give 6lb to TELLHERTHENAME. Ben Pauling's gelding won in impressive fashion on his sole start between the flags and he merits the utmost respect having been purchased for 200,000 pounds subsequently. Jango Baie has a similar profile to the selection and may prove to be next best, although Ten Lengths Tom and Brook Bay should not be discounted.

Teddy Blue unseated the rider early in that contest, but better can be expected here from the Betfair Hurdle third, while the unexposed Altobelli is another with plenty of potential dropping in class. County Hurdle winner Faivoir is entitled to build his recent return at Ffos Las and can have a say, along with stablemate Knickerbockerglory and Chance A Tune.

Given that Jonjo O'Neill's gelding needed last year's reappearance, he may be worth passing over on this occasion in favour of the more experienced TWO FOR GOLD, a mud-lover who has been readied to win fresh before and whose Ascot (chasing) form figures read '221'. Mucho Mas is another improving sort who should make his presence felt if fully tuned up, while Irish raider Yeah Man could throw up some each-way value.
