Leg 1 Selections: Street Life & Second Collection

STREET LIFE could only finish ninth of 11 at Newcastle last time, but can find himself 14Ib below his last winning mark, plus he is a former course-and-distance winner off a 10Ib higher mark too. SECOND COLLECTION might be declared a non-runner after running well when third here yesterday, but if he does line up, he should again be thereabouts off a handy mark himself.

Leg 2 Selections: Dreadpirateroberts

Reprised looked a shade unlucky when second at Beverley last time and should figure, but DREADPIRATEROBERTS built upon his promising debut second when off the mark at Ripon 199 days ago. He has to concede a package of fitness and a penalty to Karl Burke’s charge, but he should give a solid account of himself and is the sole representative to get us through to the next leg.

Leg 3 Selections: Debora’s Dream, Galloping On

DEBORA’S DREAM is more exposed than most but still brings the best form into the race, having only been beaten by a neck at Lingfield last time. He wouldn’t need to improve much more to open his account against this field. Also at Lingfield last month, the Clive Cox-trained GALLOPING ON made an encouraging start to his career when a keeping-on fourth, and is second choice.

Leg 4 Selections: Never Fear, South Kensington

Not the easiest of races to assess, but NEVER FEAR won here on debut, and despite being below form since, she must be respected back at this venue. SOUTH KENSINGTON has competed in some pretty strong races already, and her latest Newcastle third was encouraging, so she could be set to produce an even bigger effort. She is Hugo Palmer’s only runner on the card.

Leg 5 Selections: Thapa Vc, Intervention

Just like the previous race, this is wide-open, but that being said, THAPA VC has succeeded over course-and-distance wins to his name and went very close here three weeks ago when second. He must be shortlisted. A lot of the others are of interest, but I’ll cover INTERVENTION, a former course-and-distance winner who normally runs his race. He can pose a threat at the business end.

Leg 6 Selections: Barley, Tarbaan

BARLEY only found one too good at Newcastle 11 days ago and has only been raised a pound by the handicapper. Rated as high as 89 last year, including when scoring at Doncaster off a mark of 86, he remains nicely treated. TARBAAN has course-and-distance winning form, and despite only finishing fifth at Newcastle last time, Amy Murphy’s charge should be competitive.
