Leg 1 Selections: Checkmeout, Eagle Landed, Bradman

CHECKMEOUT has displayed just modest form to date, but Roger Varian’s filly must be competitive off this sort of mark at this level. I think the longer distance will suit her. BRADMAN was caught too far back over C&D last time, but did well under the circumstances to snatch fourth and could improve with a lot more to come. EAGLE LANDED shouldn’t be far away either, especially with a repeat of his Newcastle second.

Leg 2 Selections: Bankrupt, Cuban Grey

BANKRUPT has been placed to perfection by trainer Chelsea Banham, winning his last three starts, and despite shouldering a 5Ib penalty on this occasion, he must enter calculations in his bid for a fourth consecutive win. I will add in CUBAN GREY, who won a stronger race than this over C&D back in March and is well-handicapped on the all-weather. A lower draw would have been preferred, but he goes well at this course and should be thereabouts.

Leg 3 Selections: Moon Flight

MOON FLIGHT is proving expensive to follow, and it’s still a quandary as to what his preferred distance is, but he still brings the best form to the table. He ran a very nice race last time to finish a staying-on second, despite racing keenly, and must be the answer to this contest given how winnable the race is in general. Luke Morris can use his powers to get him over the line in front.

Leg 4 Selections: Billian, White Umbrella, Sherdil

BILLIAN couldn’t make any inroads on the main principles when sixth over C&D last time, but Phil Kirby’s charge has a good record at this venue and cannot be dismissed. WHITE UMBRELLA luckily escapes a penalty for her recent C&D success, so she could follow up if this doesn’t come too soon. Meanwhile, SHERDIL is 1Ib below his last winning mark and should be in the firing line at the business end.

Leg 5 Selections: Clarendon House, Chipstead, Rocket Rodney

This is a highly competitive feature race, so I am going to play three against the field. The first one is top-weight CLARENDON HOUSE, who has some smart turf form in his locker and is interesting on his all-weather debut from only a 1Ib higher mark than when third in the Epsom Dash earlier this year. CHIPSTEAD is 3Ib below his last winning mark and can also be competitive, while the same is applied to ROCKET RODNEY despite running poorly last time at Pontefract.

Leg 6 Selections: Ernie’s Valentine, Sterling Knight

ERNIE’S VALENTINE hasn’t won in over two years, but a return to winning form is surely imminent off his reduced mark. He is far from straightforward but is well-handicapped. Of the remainder, the top-weight STERLING KNIGHT, who is 3Ib below his last win, should be on the premises. He is a former C&D winner who should appreciate the ease in grade. Mclean House looks harshly treated in his handicap debut.
