Following two winners yesterday, Steve Ryder has three tips for Wednesday's horse racing.
14:15 Ffos Las
The David Pipe trained KEPAGGE (best priced at 9/2) ended last season in good form and he should hold strong claims of making a winning chasing debut. The nine-year-old is lightly raced having only had 13 starts under rules with him ending last season with form figures of 121. Both of those victories came here over 2m4f and he makes his chasing debut over 2m3½f.
Kepagge has had a wind operation over the summer and he runs here off only a 5lb higher mark than his victory here in April. He is a half-brother to three winning chasers so he should be suited by the switch to fences and is expected to run well.
14:40 Warwick
Venetia Williams has her stable in fantastic form currently with a 46% strike rate and LAGONDA (best priced at 7/4) is expected to get off the mark over fences at the second attempt. The eight-year-old had a good record in PTPs with form figures of 31U21 so she has experience over fences as well as finishing a head 2nd on her chasing debut at Exeter in February off a mark of 109.
Lagonda won a maiden hurdle at Chepstow in April with her novice status over fences being retained for this season. A 226 day break won’t inconvenience her and she should prove hard to beat.
15:15 Warwick
Cepage is respected for the in-form Venetia Williams yard but preference instead goes to AYE RIGHT (best priced at 2/1) who was unlucky not to win on his reappearance at Chepstow. The ten-year-old went 10 lengths clear after the final fence before idling at the finish on his first run for 237 days and getting headed by Good Boy Bobby in the final strides.
That was off a mark of 150 and the handicapper has only raised Aye Right 2lbs up to a mark of 152 for this race. The form of that run has been boosted by Good Boy Bobby following up at Sandown off a 3lb higher mark and he is now rated 7lbs higher than his reappearance. Aye Right was still entered in the final stages of the Charlie Hall Chase so he has obviously been training well since and he should prove hard to beat in this Veterans’ Chase off top weight.
