Leg 1 Selections: Bowenspark

Henry Daly’s BOWENSPARK won his first couple of bumper starts before a good fourth in a Listed race at Newbury, followed by an excellent fourth of 20 in a Grade 2 event at Aintree. He easily landed the odds on his hurdles debut at Stratford and has given every indication that he can take a higher rank, so he should go close.

Leg 2 Selections: Cheddleton, Pay The Piper

CHEDDLETON has C&D-winning form and ran another solid race in this sphere when runner-up to Malystic at Wetherby. He made the frame several times last season off higher marks and returned with a satisfying fourth over hurdles at Carlisle three weeks ago. He can be shortlisted, as can PAY THE PIPER, who is 4Ib lower than when fifth in the Red Rum at Aintree and ran well on this card two seasons ago when third to Bravemansgame. He will be sharper after his comeback run four weeks ago at Kelso.

Leg 3 Selections: Lac De Constance, Park Annonciade

LAC DE CONSTANCE won all three starts in novice hurdle races a couple of seasons ago, including an easy Listed win at Exeter, prior to making an impressive chase debut at Kempton, where he won by 20 lengths. His form over fences somewhat tailed off towards the end of last season, but will be fitter on the back of his tentatively ridden return last time, when a never-nearer fifth place finish under a big weight behind Crambo on his return at Aintree. He is a major player, while bottom-weight PARK ANNONCIADE is improving over hurdles and should be thereabouts stepping up in distance.

Leg 4 Selections: Apple Away, Gaillard Du Mesnil

Lucinda Russell’s APPLE AWAY produced a gutsy, never-say-die performance from the front in the Sefton Novices' Hurdle over three miles at the Aintree Grand National Meeting, and the form looks top-notch, given she had Stay Away Fay, Iroko, and Maximilian in behind, who are all high-class themselves. She is of strong interest in her chase debut and could capitalise on the weight she receives from her main rivals, though GAILLARD DU MESNIL has lots of chase experience and has yet to finish out of the frame in his career after 18 starts. He was last seen finishing an excellent third in the Grand National, and it is significant that Patrick Mullins has come over to ride.

Leg 5 Selections: Howlingmadmurdock, Crambo, Emitom

HOWLINGMADMURDOCK won two of his three hurdle starts before running a cracker when pitched into the deep end at Aintree to take fifth in a Grade 1 race. That was his first run over three miles, and an opening handicap debut mark of 140 looks lenient. He is open to significant improvement and could easily outrun his odds. CRAMBO is unbeaten in six starts outside of Group 1 company and is two-from-two in handicaps. He must be respected, while EMITOM is a Grade 2-winning hurdler, has C&D-winning form, and ran well when second on his reappearance at Newbury just over two weeks ago.

Leg 6 Selections: Bravemansgame, Corach Rambler

BRAVEMANSGAME will be fitter from his pleasing return in the Charlie Hall at Wetherby when second, where he travelled beautifully throughout before he was overhauled in the closing stages by the race-fit winner, who was in receipt of 6Ib. Daryl Jacob is an excellent substitute in the saddle who is seeking a fourth win in the race, while Paul Nicholls has won this six times in his training career. The King George winner and Cheltenham Gold Cup second should be extremely hard to beat. CORACH RAMBLER could be the surprise package, who is a dual Cheltenham Festival winner and a Grand National winner.
