Leg 1 Selections: What A Johnny, Recoup

With each of them holding a strike rate of 26% and 29%, jockey Sean Bowen and trainer Olly Murphy have an excellent chance of extending their statistics with WHAT A JOHNNY. The five-year-old made a winning hurdling debut at Stratford just under four weeks ago, and while more is required under his penalty, he should go well. RECOUP edged out a subsequent winner when also successful on hurdles debut and is another to consider.

Leg 2 Selections: Onestepatatime, Storm Tiger

ONESTEPATATIME has a great association with this racecourse, in which she has won three times over C&D, including last time. Given it’s her favourite venue, a 4Ib rise seems unlikely to stop her from completing her four-timer. I will, however, cover STORM TIGER, who goes well on soft ground and is a danger to all in this line-up on his reappearance.

Leg 3 Selections: Hashtag Boum, Harper Valley

HASHTAG BOUM opened her Rules account in good style in a handicap at Kelso back in April, and she will find this a lot easier than the race she contested last time. She could be ready to run well on her return, but HARPER VALLEY is the one to beat. The latter got off the mark at Hexham back in May and should have more to offer now, after a break.

Leg 4 Selections: Guillaume, Budarri

The Donald McCain-trained GUILLAME ran a tidy race when third over C&D on chase debut and ran to a similar level when a decent fourth at Doncaster just 11 days ago. He should have more to come, given that run came after seven months off. BUDARRI likes it here, whose form figures at this course read 23432, and his latest return should have put him straight for this.

Leg 5 Selections: El Jefe, Coup De Gold

El JEFE ended a long losing run when easily scoring over C&D 12 days ago, and although his mark has been raised an extra 5Ib, he scored over track and trip back in late-December 2021 off a 7Ib higher mark. He is a rock-solid choice and should be able to supplement his latest win with further success. COUP DE GOLD often finds a few too good, but he’s fallen to a dangerous mark, so he cannot be ruled out.

Leg 6 Selections: Ingleby Mackenzie, Ashjan

INGLEBY MACKENZIE ran his best race for a while when he finished third at Musselburgh three weeks ago, and the return to this longer distance will suit. He won off a much higher mark when last successful, when trained in Ireland, and shouldn’t be far away. ASHJAN has two wins over fences around here and should be sharper from his comeback run while on a career-low mark.
