This looks a two horse race between last time out winners What A Johnny and Recoup (best priced at 4/6) with preference going to the latter. The Fergal O’Brien trained four-year-old won on the flat in France in October 2022 before returning from 156 days off the track to make a winning stable/hurdling debut at Ludlow a month ago. He showed a good attitude that day to beat the Nicky Henderson trained Choccabloc by a head who has boosted the form with a win on his next start. The pair pulled 11 lengths clear of the third with the 95 flat rated Adjuvent back in fourth.

Recoup has to concede a 7lb penalty in this race but so does What A Johnny and the form of his run looks superior to that of his rival. The tongue-tie which was worn for the first time a month ago is retained and he should be able to make it 2/2 over hurdles.

A record of 1-23 under rules is uninspiring but Eurkash (best priced at 11/4) should hold strong claims of adding a second career success in this race. The Paul Webber trained nine-year-old was only beaten a neck on his reappearance at Warwick over 2m4f staying on well at the finish off a mark of 78.

The handicapper has raised Eurkash 3lbs up to a mark of 81 in this race but it is worth remembering that he was once rated 102. Connections now reach for first time cheekpieces and hopefully he can get a much deserved victory in this race back up in trip to 3 miles.

Both Diamond and Musical Masquerade are respected on their debuts but they should struggle to beat Deep Strato (best priced at 7/4) who was an impressive point-to-point winner in April. The Donald McCain trained five-year-old won by nine lengths that day and was purchased by Hemmings Racing following that run.
That vital PTP experience should mean that Deep Strato is hard to beat in this race and he is expected to make a winning stable debut.
