Leg 2 Selections: Young Buster, Overcourt 

Trainer Fergal O’Brien’s strike rate here is impeccable, with nine wins from his 21 runners (43%), while Paddy Brennan’s strike rate reads five wins from his 14 rides (36%). The pair will combine with YOUNG BUSTER here, who made an impressive chase debut at Warwick and should be tough to beat with improvement on the cards.

OVERCOURT is lightly-raced for his age and does possess some good form, including five placed efforts from his five chase starts. He returned from a long absence this year to finish runner-up in both starts and is a live threat to the market leader.

Leg 3 Selections: You Some Girl, Secret Secret 

YOU SOME GIRL looked set to score at Sedgefield last time when she was just about in front before she fell as the last hurdle. The handicapper has reacted with a minor 3Ib rise, which seems lenient given what the outcome would have been had she stood up. SECRET SECRET is the second suggestion, having bolted up by 14 lengths over C&D just over a fortnight ago, and, although she has an 11Ib rise to overcome, she could prove a tough nut to crack.

Leg 4 Selections: Had To Be Hugo, Cosmic Outlaw 

A chance is taken on HAD TO BE HUGO, who certainly fits the mould as a reliable customer, having run well in defeat in all six career starts. He shaped nicely for a long time under a positive ride on his chase debut here when third 18 days ago and must have leading claims from a 2Ib lower mark with distinct improvement to come. I wouldn’t rule out COSMIC OUTLAW though, who won over C&D last October and warmed up for this with a spin over hurdles here last time on his reappearance. 

Leg 5 Selections: Enemy At The Gate, Ballin Bay

I really like the chances of ENEMY AT THE GATE, who finished in front of a subsequent winner when second at Newcastle in March. He is only 2Ib higher now after being dropped a couple of pounds after his seasonal fourth at Carlisle. I can see him running really well, with Brian Hughes booked to ride.

BALLIN BOY has improved with each start and finished a staying-on third in his chase debut when last seen. Despite the lack of a run, he’s one to heavily consider.

Leg 6 Selections: Fortcanyon, Camp Belan

FORTCANYON wasn’t at his best on his return but won comfortably in his penultimate start and could have a leading role to play this time. That said, CAMP BELAN won this race last year off a 3Ib higher mark and must have a great chance of following up. He has slowly come to the boil of late and wasn’t beaten far when fourth at Wetherby last time off this mark. He should make a bold effort to defend his crown.
