GUSTAV GRAVES is best excused his ninth-placed finish when stuck out wide over C&D recently and a reproduction of last month's second at this venue could suffice. Nellie French and Suanni also warrant a second look.

There was plenty of encouragement to be taken from HANDSOME CHAP's debut second over C&D last month and the Camacho colt rates as the one to beat. Debutant Super Hit is a half-brother to the fairly useful Endless Power and is a potential fly in the ointment if hitting the ground running, with Theworldsnotenough making most appeal of the remaining rivals, having posted two creditable efforts in defeat here to date.

REVERBERATION proved a different proposition when landing the spoils on his second appearance for current connections at Chelmsford last Monday. The veteran won with plenty in hand that day and a 4lb penalty looks unlikely to prevent him from going in again. Footsy recently posted a respectable third over C&D and Robert Stephens' inmate may serve the most resistance to the selection, ahead of Pysanka, who is only 2lb above his last winning mark.

A big field could see luck in running playing some part in the end result, but if the formbook holds up, then COMPOSITE has every chance. Fourth in a Huntingdon bumper and third on his Flat debut over course and distance, he was slowly away that day and also denied a clear run at a crucial stage. A clean run at the leaders now may see him get the better of Lord Melbourne, who had a valid excuse last time and is better than that, and perhaps Caustic, second in both bumpers and making his all-weather debut here.

Trainer Mick Appleby's reputation for improving horses that join from other yards continues, with IPPOTHEOS stepping up for a first career victory here over a furlong shorter after arriving from Paul and Oliver Cole's yard. He ran on well that day and could make a winning handicap debut over this trip, though there are clearly plenty of dangers. Kempton victor Miami Heat, handicap debutant Neapolitan and course and distance winner Debora's Dream are all worthy of serious consideration, in what looks like a highly competitive event for the prize money.

Caracristi won this last year as a three-year-old off a mark of 50, and although not at his best recently with a poor seventh here last month, he does race off 5lb lower this year and is hard to totally ignore. STAR OF ST LOUIS was gunned down late at Lingfield when beaten a length off this mark, despite racing wide, and with a decent draw in stall three, he should be able to make his presence felt. Gypsy Whisper and Casa Luna are others to note.

KINGWELL was just outbattled in a duel to the line over C&D earlier in the month and he was only put up 1lb for that display, which may not be enough to prevent him from going one better. The main danger is Advantage (third), who finished behind Coconut Bay (second) over a mile at Southwell but now tries first-time cheekpieces and they can eke out more as he bids to reverse those placings. Of the remainder, Pallas Lord is another to note.

WELOOF never really got into contention when he finished sixth over C&D earlier in the month and he was dropped 2lb for that display, which puts him 3lb lower than his last winning mark. The son of Redoute's Choice could take a step forward and put these to the sword. The main threat is Pyrrhic Dancer, who had Brave Display (third) behind when scoring over track and trip last month. Marisitta goes in first-time blinkers and can also go well.
