The progressive Rubaud proved a ready winner of the Elite Hurdle at Wincanton last month and Paul Nicholls' inmate may provide the most resistance to the selection. The five-year-old has won four races on the bounce and he shouldn't be disgraced at this highest level, while First Street may fare best of the remainder.

The Real Whacker flopped in the Paddy Power Gold Cup, but this is more his cup of tea and he could prove a nuisance to the selection at the head of affairs.

WILL CARVER ran out a ready winner on his seasonal bow at Taunton in November. The gelded son of Califet won enough in hand that day to suggest that a 9lb rise in the ratings isn't insurmountable and he may be able to thwart the challenge of handicap debutant Emailandy. The five-year-old finished a respectable third in a competitive novice hurdle at Newbury earlier this month and he isn't taken lightly. Artistic Endeavour also makes some appeal, despite this rise in class.
