Kalpaga took a step back in the right direction at Ludlow and she completes the shortlist.

ONEWAYWEST has found only one too strong on each of his three appearances to date, including when chasing home a smart subsequent winner at Ffos Las. His initial handicap mark could prove quite lenient, although the same can be said for Bataillon, who began his British career in a good Ascot maiden. Elogio was fifth in a handicap on that same card in Berkshire, while Strackan is fancied to step forward on his first foray outside of maiden/novice company.

The son of Court Cave hasn't been seen since being pulled up in the Ultima in March, but he has gone well when fresh previously and this would appear to have been the target. Empire Steel made a satisfactory reappearance at Kelso in October and he looks likely to give the selection most to think about, while recent Carlisle scorer Houston Texas heads the remainder.

Foster'sisland was narrowly denied in this contest last year and he merits respect in his bid to go one better, but SANTOS BLUE could prove to be too strong. Dan Skelton's charge was far from disgraced in a Premier Handicap at Haydock last time, and he is expected to mount a serious challenge eased in class. Sam's Choice is most appealing of the remainder, while a return to hurdles might benefit Fair Frontieres.

Special Rate has proved a thoroughly likeable type after completing a five-timer over hurdles at Sedgefield in mid-November and he cannot be ruled out in his current mood. However, the six-year-old is now 14lb higher in the ratings and fellow last-time-out winner OUR JET edges the vote. Dan Skelton's charge races off only 5lb more and he looks the better-treated of the pair. Cornerstone Lad may fare best of the remainder.

COUP DE COEUR opened his account with a comfortable success at Sedgefield in late-November and his current rating of 108 may underestimate his ability. Although Royal Rhythm was somewhat disappointing when only fifth at Warwick last month, it's too soon to be writing the seven-year-old off and he should prove more competitive on this occasion. V Twelve and Beat Box are unlikely to be far away either.
