UK Horse Racing Tips: Limerick

In his couple of appearances to date, THE ELECTRICAL KID has finished behind subsequent graded scorers Inthepocket and Croke Park. Aintree top-flight winner from last spring, Inthepocket started his career by defeating the selection in a point-to-point. Then beginning for current connections, The Electrical Kid could only manage third when favourite and well in arrears of Croke Park in a Clonmel maiden hurdle. Croke Park has since bagged the Grade 3 Monksfield at Navan. Closutton's representative here may well have sharpened up considerably for the Clonmel effort, his first in nearly two years, to make the breakthrough. Binge Worthy has a similar background to The Electrical Kid and he's much respected now hurdling. Summer Melody and Interieur Cuir are among the others that need considering.

Implicit may be helped by the addition of a hood and a tongue-strap might turn Beau Walking from a perennial placer into a winner. The percentage call is to row in behind CLEATUS POOLAW, though. The likelihood is that he faced a difficult task in trying to keep tabs on the exciting Daddy Long Legs at Thurles last time. Given his point-to-point background the selection was always going to find an extended two miles at Thurles an insufficient task, especially against an opponent coming off the Flat. Expect 2m5f now to be right up the Elliott runner's street. Walk Away Harry and Native Speaker could contend for places in the frame without quite matching the main players.

MOONLIGHT GETAWAY has been lively in the market on more than one occasion in the past, suggesting there's ability lurking in the lightly-raced seven-year-old. Admittedly, he didn't come up to the expectations of those that supported him down to a starting price of 7/1 last time, but a stiffer stamina test on deeper ground may be more suitable and it looks like he has been put aside for an assignment at this fixture. Stable companions Captain Jimmy and Clyde The Glide are respected, but many others also appear capable of getting involved. Course victor Cosmo Renfro is back in trip and that may not prove to be much of an impediment with cheekpieces unsurprisingly deployed again.

Grade 1-winning hurdler GAELIC WARRIOR created a huge impression when making a faultless start to his chasing career at Punchestown last month. The Willie Mullins-trained five-year-old faced some accomplished rivals on that occasion but had the race won by halfway and was able to ease right down for a 15 length victory. Given a clear round of jumping it is difficult to see anything other than a carbon copy here. Stablemate Il Etait Temps looked very exciting when demolishing a high-class field in a Grade 1 novice hurdle at Leopardstown last year but hasn't quite reached those heights since. The ability is clearly there so he will always remain capable of a big performance. American Mike got his career back on track when making a winning debut over fences at Navan but faces a stiff test on this second start.

Recent Clonmel winner CAPTAINS NEPHEW catches the eye towards the foot of the weights. Philip Rothwell's six-year-old jumped and travelled well throughout that Rated Novice Chase, staying on powerfully to score by seven lengths. A subsequent 9lb rise was hard to argue with but his very capable amateur takes most of that off here. On the testing ground, he could well have too much class for these opponents. Queen Jane, a winner over fences at this venue last March, looks one of the more likely types. The Henry De Bromhead-trained mare was just touched off at Fairyhouse last time and connections have also opted to claim on this occasion. Coqolino is remains lightly raced despite his age but the Gordon Elliott-trained runner is a very decent horse when on song.

Cork Grand National winner SIR BOB holds leading claims reverting to hurdles. The Robert Tyner-trained 11-year-old cut a rather frustrating figure prior to winning a veterans chase at this meeting last year but that success gave him renewed confidence. Since then, the J.P. McManus-owned gelding has reached a mark of 128 over fences, so he has to be of interest running off 113 here. Ishan is at his very best over 3m on testing ground, so with optimum conditions likely, the Sam Curling-trained five-year-old represents a serious threat. Local trainer Eric McNamara targets this festival every Christmas and Mont Saint Vincent seems an obvious candidate. The gelding prepped for this race with an honourable second behind a well handicapped opponent at this track back in October.

Point-to-point winner CADOUDAL SAINT can make a winning debut under rules for Willie Mullins. The five-year-old held a couple of engagements over the Christmas period, so the fact connections have decided to opt for this race could prove significant. The form of his win between the flags has been well advertised by the third horse who impressed when winning over hurdles on his first British start last month. Locally trained gelding The Story So Far probably ran as well as he was entitled to when second behind a highly regarded horse at Navan recently. He should again be involved at the business end of this race. Staffordshire Knot made a promising racecourse debut when chasing home two nice types over hurdles at Cork last month. Gordon Elliott's five-year-old should be all the better for that experience.
