Rated 82 on the level, Roaring Legend is a notable newcomer to this discipline after changing hands for 90,000gns, while Kalif Du Berlais and All In You both won over timber in France and command respect.

GOODWIN had two lengths to spare over runner-up Junkanoo when successful at Plumpton, with Kotari fifth, and can confirm his superiority despite being worse off under a penalty. Having shown some improvement to finish fourth at Newbury last month, Highway One O Five is feared most, although Pleasington is one to monitor carefully in the betting on his hurdles debut.

The hat-trick chasing Chianti Classico is in with another big shout after posting a determined effort to land the odds at Ascot and, off just 1lb higher, he enters the reckoning. However, this marks a drop in class for FLEGMATIK, whose third-placed finish in a premier handicap at that same venue sets the bar a touch higher and he looks the one to side with off the same rating. Gustavian and De Rasher Counter also warrant consideration.

A case can be made for all of these but marginal preference is for EDWARDSTONE, who may improve now stepped up in trip. The 10-year-old has chased home Jonbon over 2m on both starts this season and that form gives him a big chance if seeing out the extra distance. Banbridge was last seen winning a Grade 1 at Aintree in April and he would pose a big threat to the selection if ready to go after 275 days off. Last year's winner Pic D'Orhy edges out Janidil and Notlongtillmay to be best of the rest.

IMPOSE TOI lost little in defeat when narrowly denied by stablemate Luccia in a valuable 2m handicap at Ascot shortly before Christmas. A 3lb rise for that effort appears to be fair and the six-year-old looks the one to beat. Sonigino relished the step back up in trip when winning over 2m4f at Aintree and could give the selection plenty to think about. King Alexander is another with valid form claims, while Nemean Lion and Up For Parol complete the shortlist.

Pepe Le Moko hit the woodwork at Plumpton last month and, though he merits respect, six-year-olds don't have the best of records in this contest so preference is for RED ROOKIE. Emma Lavelle's charge failed to make an impact over hurdles at Sandown, but the return to fences will suit and he is back on his last winning mark. Le Ligerien was far from disgraced in a veterans' event at Cheltenham and he ought to go well.

From an unchanged mark, and with Harry Cobden in the saddle for the first time, he appeals as the one to beat. Caithness chased home a couple of useful types at Cheltenham in November so he looks a big threat, despite a subsequent 5lb rise. Fransham is also noted.
