Tuesday Horse Racing Tips from Steve Ryder

The Tom Symonds trained GAYE LEGACY (best priced at 5/1) has been running consistently well since switching to handicaps this season and she looks sure to be involved in the finish in this race. The six-year-old has form figures of 122 since stepping up in trip to 3 miles including a victory at Market Rasen in November. She finished 2nd on heavy ground at Aintree on her next start off a 4lb higher mark before finishing 2nd at Kempton last time off a mark of 110.

The handicapper has raised Gaye Legacy 2lbs up to a mark of 112 which is fair and she should run well with bookmakers offering up to six places. 

Both Surprise Picture and COUNSEL (best priced at 9/4) run here under 5lb penalties following their victories a week ago but preference goes to the latter who was making his stable debut for Mick Appleby. The six-year-old was a smart horse who finished 3rd behind Baaeed when trained by John Gosden before joining Ian Williams when rated 80. He dropped down to a mark of 67 in twelve runs for the stable before bouncing back to form on his first start for Appleby.

Counsel landed a gamble when sent off 6/4 favourite on his first start for 212 days at Lingfield off a mark of 67 when staying on strongly to win by 2 ¾ lengths. The handicapper has raised him 7lbs which means he runs here 2lbs “well in” at the weights and should prove hard to beat with Callum Shepherd retaining the ride.

This looks a weak 0-78 with many of these struggling for recent form but it looks worth taking a chance on the only course and distance winner in the field AIRSHOW (best priced at 10/1). The Rod Millman trained nine-year-old is a three-time course winner including off marks of 83 (on fibresand) and 79 so he looks well handicapped off a mark of 71.

Airshow proved he still retains ability by outrunning odds of 40/1 to finish 3rd by 1 ¾ lengths over this course and distance on his penultimate start off a mark of 73 before running poorly at Kempton last time. The handicapper has dropped him 2lbs for that effort and he should run well back over this course and distance.
