Garrick Painter received a picture book ride by Killian Leonard when defeating several of today’s opposition here last time out but whether things pan out in a similar fashion on his return visit remains to be seen and of those in behind him that day, PICPOUL (best price 9/2) is fancied to turn around the form on account of they surely can’t go any slower than they did 42 days ago.

Settled in midfield after not been that alertly into stride, the daughter of Gale Force Ten was then hostage to fortune how the race developed and in what became a farcical dash for the judge off the home turn, it was unsurprising to see her, along with many of the field, caught out in tactical joust.

Better judged on her previous winning performance when much more suited to a stronger gallop, hopefully lightening doesn’t strike twice and they go the sort of fractions in-keeping with races of this nature. Providing that turns out to be the case, expect the six-year-old mare to be more competitive in the final reckoning.

SILVER ATOM (best price 11/2) has yet to win a race over hurdles in nine attempts but there have been more encouraging signs of late and following an eye-catching effort at Hereford last time out, Archie Watson’s inmate might just have his day in the sun.

Seemingly not going anywhere fast turning out of the back straight, the six-year-old grey did start to make in roads into the main players after the second last and continuing his progression through the field, he ended up going on strongest of all at the finish.

Hitting the line hard at the Midland venue, he left the impression he would be suited by an even greater test and with connections soon to eye up the nearest opportunity where that scenario presents itself, today’s stiff climb to the finish off the home turn should hopefully play into his strengths.
