GOLDEN DE COEUR (best price 11-4) had to be deemed a slightly unlucky loser of a maiden hurdle at Sedgefield last time out and with today’s step up in trip seen as a positive move by connections, Warren Greatrex’s gelding cam make amends at the main expense of Illico De Cotte who, up to now, has done nothing special on the numbers.

Setting out to make all the running at the Durham venue, the son of Racinger seemed to have matters in control for most of the journey and even when challenged by his nearest purser on the run down to the last, you always felt he was going to find more on the run-in. Unfortunately, he crashed his way through the final flight and landed awkwardly and this meant he had insufficient time to regather his thoughts, thus handing the race to Captain Potter on a plate.

On the positive side, he did manage to record his best speed figure in defeat and that on top of two useful efforts against decent novice opposition at Ffos Las, the eight-year-old has built up a portfolio of performances to suggest it’s only a matter of time before he gains his due rewards.

Being a former point winner, you’d like to imagine stepping up to three miles here today would suit and with Sean Bowen likely to be given the instructions to go out and make it a reasonable test, his mount is fancied to respond in the best possible fashion.

CHIPSTEAD (NAP) (best price 2-1) found the sharp five furlongs at Lingfield a bit of blur last time out but now back to the scene of his previous success, Roger Teal’s inmate looks to have bright prospects of getting back on track.

In a race run at a furious gallop thanks to the exploits of the eventual winner One Night Stand, the six-year-old got completely taken off his feet but to his great credit, he did finish his race of best of all to yield some sort of respectability, in turn, strongly hinting that a return to six furlongs might be a better option going forward.

Really good on the numbers over tonight’s C&D two starts ago, the son of Mayson proved that evening he still has plenty to offer in the sprinting division and with the strong possibility Blind Beggar will provide him with a decent target to aim at, his ability to see out the trip well and grind out a result will hopefully prove the key component.
