Mezzotinto failed to fire on turf at Abu Dhabi, but could give the selection most to think about if reproducing the effort that saw him finish second to a progressive stablemate when last seen over this C&D in December.

In an open event, marginal preference is for MCMANAMAN, who looks to have plenty in his favour. Doug Watson's gelding was fourth in a much stronger race than this over C&D a month ago and he could finally return to winning ways off a 1lb lower mark from a good draw. The unexposed Olympic Candle is an obvious threat on his handicap debut, although it won't be easy for the three-year-old to take on his elders. Changing Colours beat Molaqab over track and trip, but he got an enterprising ride from the front and is not certain to confirm the form. Open Mind was ridden far too aggressively from a wide draw when behind the selection on his most recent outing. It is a concern that the same could happen again, but he might surprise a few with more patience from the saddle.

LION'S MANE failed to fire at Jebel Ali, but he could bounce back at this venue. The five-year-old was second to a very well-handicapped rival over 1m2f here two starts ago and will be hard to beat if repeating that level of form off a 1lb lower mark. Ahesta Bero was not disgraced when fifth in a much stronger race over C&D on his penultimate appearance and has gone close subsequently, while Golden Arch and Daneyan may be able to reward each-way support.

The fact that William Buick stays loyal to First Sight after his luckless effort here two weeks ago suggests that better can be expected, with Highbank and Imperial Emperor other Charlie Appleby representatives who are likely to be in the mix. He's now 3lb lower than when fifth to Ouzo over C&D last month and he could go well with Adrie de Vries taking over in the saddle. Ouzo has to be of interest once again, while Laser Guided and King Of Time are also considered.
