The heavy ground conditions are a question mark for the three shorter than her in the market so preference goes to CHOSEN HERO (best priced at 5/1) who comes here following a victory at Chepstow last time. The Archie Watson trained mare was a three length winner of a soft ground bumper at Wetherby a year ago before chasing home the 125 rated Lunar Discover on heavy ground on her hurdling debut at Hexham.

Chosen Hero got off the mark over hurdles last time at Chepstow on heavy ground when fitted with first time cheekpieces and she now makes her handicap debut off a mark of 107. She receives nearly a stone from Endless Escape and should be involved in the finish.

The Paul Nicholls trained TAKE YOUR TIME (best priced at 7/2) won his first two starts over fences on heavy ground and should be able to bounce back from a poor effort at Wincanton last time. The nine-year-old won by ½ length at Newton Abbot in October on his chasing debut off a mark of 114 on heavy ground before following up in December at Wincanton off a mark of 117 by 13 lengths.

Take Your Time pulled up on good to soft ground last time at Wincanton but will be suited by this stamina test on heavy ground in this race. The handicapper has dropped him 1lb to a mark of 124 and he should prove hard to beat under Harry Cobden.

OPTICIAN (best priced at 10/11) is unbeaten in his three starts since joining the Shaun Lycett stable and he should be able to complete a four-timer in this race. The four-year-old joined the stable rated 55 where he landed a gamble over this course and distance by ½ length. He then followed up off a mark of 59 under Danny Tudhope by a neck before completing the hat-trick last time by a nose off a mark of 62.

All three of those victories have come over this course and distance since being fitted with a tongue tie and he is now only 3lbs higher. Danny Tudhope is back on board and he should prove hard to beat from Stall 1.

Eloped is respected following her victory over this course and distance last time but preference instead goes to ENZOS ANGEL (best priced at 9/4) who runs here from 4lbs “well in” at the weights. The five-year-old won on his stable debut for Neil Mulholland last time over 1m1½f off a mark of 51 by an impressive four lengths stretching clear easily.

The handicapper has raised Enzos Angel 9lbs for that victory but he instead runs here under a 5lb penalty meaning that he is 4lbs “well in” at the weights. He shaped like this step up in trip to 1m4f should suit and he should prove hard to beat with Hayley Turner deputising on board.

Enzos Angel - 1pt @ 9/4

This looks a competitive 0-70 handicap but preference goes to QUANTUM FORCE (best priced at 6/1) on his handicap debut. The George Boughey trained three-year-old ran with credit in his first three career starts and now returns from 131 days off the track having been gelded. He makes his handicap debut off an opening mark of 62 and interestingly is now fitted with first time blinkers for this race.

The stable have a good record with handicap debutants so it wouldn’t surprise me to see some market support under Hollie Doyle for the first time and he should hold strong claims in this race.
