Steve Ryder is back with four tips for today's action.
13:30 Lingfield
This looks a competitive 0-85 apprentice handicap but preference goes to TRIBAL WISDOM (best priced at 14/1) who runs here 2lbs “well in” at the weights. The Ian Williams trained five-year-old won over this course and distance in January by two lengths off a mark of 58 before following up at Wolverhampton on his next start by ½ length off a mark of 65.
Tribal Wisdom raced too keenly last time when beaten into 3rd over this course and distance under a 5lb penalty but he was only beaten a length and the handicapper has revised his rating to a mark of 70. He instead runs here off a mark of 68 so he is 2lbs “well in” at the weights and he looks sure to run well with four places available.
15:12 Lingfield
The Mick Appleby trained BALDOMERO (best priced at 7/1) has shown improved form in the past following a switch of headgear so I am hoping first time blinkers mean he can gain a much-deserved victory. The six-year-old has consistent form figures of 32232242 since returning from a 151-day break including defeats by a short head, a neck, a neck and a short head. His latest run came over this course and distance off a mark of 90 in a visor and connections now fit him with first time blinkers instead.
Baldomero now steps back up in class in this race but with Harry Davies, who was only beaten a neck on him on his only other ride on him, back on board he should run well with four places available.
16:45 Newbury
Man At Work looks a vulnerable favourite on his return from 455 days so preference goes to YOUNG BUTLER (best priced at 7/2) who won over this course and distance last time. The eight-year-old won on his final start for Emma Lavelle winning on his stable debut for Harry Derham on his reappearance. That victory came over this course and distance where he beat Emitom by two lengths and that rival has boosted the form winning over this course and distance last time off a 5lb higher mark.
Young Butler runs here off a 6lb higher mark so he still looks well handicapped and he should prove hard to beat if allowed to run on the softer ground (was a NR on heavy a couple of weeks ago).
19:30 Newcastle
Beylerbeyi runs here from 4lbs “well in” at the weights in this race but a chance is taken on SUGAR HILL BABE (best priced at 7/1) who won over this course and distance last time. The Lisa Williamson trained four-year-old has form figures of 221 over this course and distance including runner-up efforts by a neck off a mark of 68 and by a length off a mark of 69.
Sugar Hill Babe defied odds of 18/1 to win over this course and distance last time on her return from 121 days off the track and she runs here off only a 6lb higher mark. Alex Jary once again claims 5lbs and she should run well with four places on offer from Stall 11.
