It could be a good day for Venetia Williams and I can’t help but think SI ELEGANT is decent value to turn over the jolly Clonakilty. This French recruit only really showed one piece of form over hurdles chasing home Blue Fin at Newcastle but he looks the type to excel now sent over fences on debut for his new yard. An opening mark of 111 could prove to be lenient and he is the unknown quantity in the race. Clonakilty won readily at Lingfield last month and is the danger but a 7lb rise does seem a little on the harsh side. Of the rest Generous Day is a 12yo now and he could only manage third at Huntingdon. He is down another 2lb but this looks too demanding. William Cody also has enough to prove after getting thrashed at Wetherby latest.
