IMPERIAL ALEX has posted a string of creditable runner-up efforts of late and a belated first victory over fences could be imminent. Tom Lacey's charge should appreciate this greater emphasis on stamina and he's taken to get the better of fellow in-form rival Airtothethrone. The eight-year-old found only one rival too strong at Taunton last month and he's unlikely to be far away with a similar performance. The returning Lermoos Legend is another to note with his stable among the winners.

HAITI COULEURS wasn't quite ready for Graded company judged by his wide-margin defeat at Haydock last time out. However, the seven-year-old holds leading claims on this return to novice company and he's marginally preferred to chief rivals Bertie Wooster and Land Genie. The former has posted a series of creditable efforts in handicap company this season, while the latter boasts an unexposed profile and he is likely to be capable of better.

SEDGE WREN secured victory in good style when scoring by two lengths at Southwell on her latest outing just over a year ago. Stuart Edmunds' six-year-old has been handed a mark of 115 on her handicap bow and she could prove to be ahead of the handicapper. Sammy's Guarantee filled the runner-up spot at Hereford three weeks ago and it would be no surprise to see her involved, while last-time-out winner Tilly Toughnut is another to consider.

A chance can be taken on KNOWSLEY ROAD, who finished third in a Grade 2 hurdle at Warwick in January 2023 but has failed to fire in three subsequent starts. Paul Nicholls' seven-year-old makes his return to action after undergoing a wind operation and tries a first-time tongue-tie, so he could be a lot better than a rating of 127 if those changes have the desired effect. Thor De Cerisy quickened away to score at Chepstow and he is well worth his place at this level, while Happy And Fine could bounce back from his pulled-up effort at Cheltenham last time.

Both Ballybeen and Walkinthewoods remain winless over the larger obstacles following a series of solid performances. However, they merit the utmost respect in a race of this nature and are unlikely to be far away, but a chance can be taken on FULGURIX. The selection looked in need of the outing when pulled up at Uttoxeter on his return to action in January, an effort for which he was dropped 1lb. The nine-year-old is just 1lb higher than last April's Sedgefield triumph and further success could await.

Paul Nicholls must always be feared in these sorts of contests, and Mulinas, a 170,000-pound purchase, makes plenty of appeal on paper and he is no different. That said, the Fergal O'Brien team have had their share of success in bumpers, too, and OAK GROVE, who made a satisfactory debut at Ascot in November, can put that experience to good use now. It is interesting that Harry Cobden is booked to ride newcomer Devon Dude, and market support would bring him into the picture.
