CELTIC ART (NAP) (best price 5-2) hinted at a return to something approaching his best form here last time out and hailing from a yard having winners like it was going out of fashion, Jermey Scott’s gelding makes plenty of appeal at the morning odds.

A game winner of a competitive handicap at Lingfield back in November, the first-time cheekpieces seemingly responsible for his change in fortunes, the seven-year-old returned to the fray after a mini break to contest what looked a hot race on paper and although he couldn’t manage to see off the likes of Into

The Park and Inca De Lafayette, his effort in defeat ranks as one of his better ones in recent times.
Keeping on well after headed after the last, the son of Mastercraftsman had to be carried out on his shield and with the three well clear of the rest and the time figure good, a repeat of something similar makes him the one to beat on his return to the west country venue.

GOD BLESS AMERICA (best price 6-1) made a more than satisfactory start to his career over today’s course a month ago and with just normal improvement, he’s fancied to build nicely on that initial display.

Receiving a kick down at the start could have easily unnerved the son of Due Diligence but based on his performance during the race itself you wouldn’t have guessed there was any issue and although he was never in a position where he was likely to trouble odds-on chance Mr Swivel, he came home nicely to finish best of the rest.

The fact he’s already had a spin around today’s track is sure to stand him in good stead and hailing from a stable who sent out there first winner of the campaign in a similar three-year-old event at Doncaster on Sunday, hope is high Eve Johnson Houghton’s gelding can follow suit.

STAR ZINC (best price 5-1) was yet another victim of being drawn low and seeing too much daylight as the field migrated over towards the stands side at Newcastle last time and he is worth another chance to confirm the form he showed here the time before.

Out on a limb and receiving no cover through the early stages of what was a competitive race on paper at the Gosforth Park venue was always going to have a detrimental effect of his finishing effort and so it proved, as Rebecca Menzies’ inmate faded back into the pack whilst the main players kicked away inside the final furlong.

Prior to that below par display, the five-year-old is better judged on his performance when recovering from a poor start to chase home well-supported Irish raider Benavente over tonight’s course and with the numbers he posted that night indicating he’d run somewhere close to a career high, a return to the Midland venue should initiate positive vibes.
