Al Quoz Sprint

Charlie Appleby and Frankie Dettori have enjoyed plenty of success over in America, and they collectively team up with STAR OF MYSTERY, who has won two of her three starts at this course and must have a great chance.

She’s a high-class filly with a potent turn of foot, and despite not having a race run to suit so far this year, she’s still succeeded twice and did ever so well under the circumstances to finish as close as she did last time out when second.

Her draw in stall eight of 11 is more of a positive than a hindrance, given that she’s likely to be held up for a late rattle off a fast pace. This is a hot race, but this filly has plenty in her favour and should be finishing her race to good effect under the services of Frankie.

Dubai Turf

The remarkable and consistent LORD NORTH will be bidding for an unprecedented fourth win in this illustrious Group 1 race, and despite his advancing years, there’s every chance of him rewriting himself into the history books under Frankie Dettori.

He returned as a beaten favourite at Southwell last month but will no doubt be fitter, and the defending champion has yet to taste defeat at this course (all in this race). The winner in 2021, 2022, and 2023 will not let his crown go away lightly, but the opposition does look a lot stronger this time.

They include Nashwa, Measured Time, Luxembourg, and Donnelly Deuce, but John and Thady Gosden’s eight-year-old will be primed to run as well as he can, and that might be enough to see him continue his dominance in Dubai. He must be respected.

Dubai World Cup

Should Frankie Dettori reign supreme on the previous two horses, then all eyes will be on Frankie’s mount in the feature race on the card, NEWGATE. It is noteworthy to see the Italian maestro team up with Bob Baffert to ride this high-class four-year-old, who has a leading chance.

His three-year-old season was cut short due to injury, but after finishing second in his first couple of starts this year, he was last seen winning a Grade 1 race at Santa Anita. Another personal best will be needed if he’s to beat a field of this calibre, but I doubt he’s finished improving and should be thereabouts.
