Steve Ryder is back with three tips from Sunday's horse racing action.
14:30 Down Royal
This looks a competitive 80-102 handicap hurdle but preference goes to JACENRY (best priced at 3/1) who got off the mark over this course and distance last time. The David Harvey trained five-year-old had previously finished well beaten in maiden hurdles behind graded performers Jigoro, Predators Gold and Down Memory Lane before running with credit on his handicap debut when 6th behind the reopposing Gamigin over 2m1f.
Jacenry benefitted from the step up in trip to 2m4f for the first time when winning by a nose off a mark of 87 with the pair pulling 13 lengths clear of the third. The 7lb rise for that victory is fair and he should run well once again at this course.
15:15 Plumpton
Recent course and distance winner San Pedro is respected in this race but preference instead goes to NORTON HILL (best priced at 11/4) who is 2/2 in handicaps this season. The Anthony Honeyball trained eight-year-old won at Hereford on his reappearance after a 210 day break off a mark of 109 before following up over the same course and distance on his next start by 12 lengths off a mark of 113.
Connections have presumably kept Norton Hill away from soft ground since and he now returns back to good ground following a 120 day break off a 7lb higher mark. He still looks progressive and is expected to complete the hat-trick in this race.
15:40 Down Royal
The well-bred A GREAT BUZZ (best priced at 11/4) will no doubt prove better than a mark of 93 and this looks the perfect opportunity for her to get off the mark. Well beaten in her four starts over 2 miles in 2023, he finished 3rd at Cork on her first start over 2m4f when outrunning odds of 18/1. The Robert Tyner trained five-year-old was only beaten 5 ¾ lengths at the finish staying on well at the finish shaping like this further step up in trip will suit.
A Great Buzz steps up in trip to 2m6f and should now prove hard to beat with Mark Walsh taking over on board for the first time.
