Peaky Boy looks a horse with huge potential but with a rating of 143, ENCANTO BRUNO (best priced at 11/8) no doubt sets the standard. Gavin Cromwell has had a fantastic season at Cheltenham with nine winners from 27 runners (33% strike rate) showing a profit of 16.70 to a £1 stake and he has chosen to return Encanto Bruno to Cheltenham having run out an impressive winner here in October of good ground on his stable debut.

Encanto Bruno has disappointed on his next two starts but those have come on soft and heavy ground and he now gets his beloved good ground. Keith Donoghue once again comes over for the ride and he is expected to return to winning ways in the opener

The Harry Fry trained IN EXCELSIS DEO (best priced at 10/3) has been well fancied for three similar handicap chases throughout this season but he can hopefully return to winning ways in this race. He was only beaten 2 ½ lengths by Dancing On My Own when 3rd on his reappearance before finishing 2nd in December off a mark of 132 when jumping poorly late on. He unseated his rider when challenging at the last at Sandown in February before running well to finish 5th in the Plate at the Cheltenham festival when only beaten 4 ¼ lengths off a mark of 137.

In Excelsis Deo was hampered that day at a crucial time so that effort can be upgraded and he runs here off the same mark of 137 in this race. Sail Away and Il Ridoto look sure to run their races for Dan Skelton and Paul Nicholls but I am sure we haven’t seen the best of In Excelsis Deo yet and he can progress past them.

Stumptown should bounce back from a poor effort at the Cheltenham festival but a chance is taken on the outsider of the field CEPAGE ) (best priced at 40/1). It took Venetia Williams 23 runs to try the veteran in cheekpieces but in first time headgear he was an impressive seven length winner in December off a mark of 137. He has pulled up on his next three starts in stronger races off higher marks but has now dropped back down to a mark of 138.

Crucially, Venetia Williams now fits Cepage with first time blinkers and if this change of headgear has the same effect that first time cheekpieces had then he looks greatly overpriced.
