UK Horse Racing Tips: Clonmel

INTERSKY SUNSET was pulled up last month but has form on testing ground and had been generally consistent prior to that Navan run. She progressed well last year and while she might ideally prefer further, today's race will make for a stamina test. Cerberus was twice Grade 1-placed as a juvenile in 2019/20 and while he has been well held on recent runs, is suited by heavy ground and reverts back in distance. Boothen Boy finished second in last year's earlier-run renewal of this race and while proven on Clonmel heavy, has a long absence to overcome. Race-fit Action Motion was lying in third when a final-flight faller in a Listed race last Christmas, but was well held subsequently. Cloudy Tuesday won a hunter chase in 2021 and while he drops markedly following his Thurles run, this season's point-to-point form has been underwhelming. It Could Be You's recent form is also ordinary.

BRENNUS LESCRIBAA returns following a disappointing pulled-up run in a similar unplaced maiden at Naas in December, but had previously shown ability. His initial two hurdle runs were useful and he ran well behind two smart types at Punchestown, and while reported to be 'post-race normal' at Naas, has at least had a break and contests a weak contest. Whateys Quest's form is in-and-out but he ran well at Cork recently. He has a race-fitness edge, but is vulnerable to more able types. Midweek Voices ran a fine race at Limerick last November, from which the winner, runner-up and fifth-placed horses have won subsequently. He has been well beaten since but if he can recapture his best form, has strong claims. Splendid Choice debuts for a new yard, while Andyourbirdcansing returns from a winter break, with her best form being on a sound surface.

LADY BRESIL debuts for a new yard having run well when last seen, in a better maiden last December. Well supported on bumper debut in December 2022, she was absent for 351 days prior to Navan and ran nicely, finishing behind a smart winner, with the third-placed horse winning twice subsequently. She has size and has form on testing ground. Willie Mullins' lightly-raced seven-year-old Maroto showed mild promise before falling at the last at Punchestown in February but is absent since, is tried in a first-time tongue-tie and also hasn't been entrusted with a prize money-seeking mission to the UK. Slip Jig ran well on her first run for 684 days at Cork. That winner is exciting, with the runner-up scoring subsequently, but Slip Jig debuts over jumps today. Walmix won a June bumper but returns from a winter break and concedes a penalty. Zulu Mike showed encouraging signs before falling at the second-last on debut at Thurles and could place.

The Niffler would be an obvious contender if reappearing under the mandatory penalty two days after scoring by half a length in Naas. He had a tough enough race there, though, and will have to defy a big weight. It could be worth chancing C'EST RIEN under Paul Townend. This is a drop in class and trip for the seven-year-old mare, but she has form over a similar trip. Townend takes a rare outside ride in a riveting jockeys' title race. Tingarran Express caught a tartar when beaten six lengths into second at this track in February. That was still a decent effort and she is a Clonmel specialist (placed in her last three starts here). Go Gill Go, with Townend's title rival Jack Kennedy in the plate, is capable of getting in the mix while Robindevidastar could go well off the front for a long way.

Willie Mullins has landed the last six renewals of this race and Horantzau D'airy has a decent shot at bringing the seven up. He was somewhat fortuitous to get off the mark on chasing debut at Leopardstown last month when the two horses in front of him both crashed out at the last fence. However, there should be plenty more to come from a horse who won once over flights in addition to being placed in three valuable handicap hurdles. Slight preference is for HOLLOW GAMES, though. These are much calmer waters for Gordon Elliott's 143-rated chaser. He hasn't been at his best in his last four outings, but his last piece of notable form saw him finish third in the Galway Plate. He should appreciate this company and the small field. Gaelic Arc is a fair horse in his own right, but is returning from a long absence.

EDDIES PRIDE appeals off a very light weight. She put in a solid shift when third over 3m2f at Fairyhouse in January. Her sole victory came over 3m in Fairyhouse, so this trip should be fine for her. In addition, she has been placed over hurdles and fences on her last two visits to this track. Lilian Bland brought off a gamble when asserting to win by seven lengths in Thurles last month. She is 9lb higher and is up in trip but, if in the same mood, would be a big player. Kilashee has finished runner-up in the last two handicap chases she has contested at this venue and is a contender while Bella Bliss isn't in form, but is the highest-rated horse by a stone. If she is going to bounce back to form, it could come in this lesser company albeit she would prefer better ground.

INN AT THE PARK is progressing and can get off the mark up in trip. He began his career with a third place at Fairyhouse behind a very useful sort who was subsequently third in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival. He then showed improvement to be beaten less than a length into third in Punchestown and that winner endorsed the form by finishing fourth in the aforementioned Champion Bumper. Bleu De Vassy has already tackled a similar trip to this when runner-up at Sligo. Since then, he was pipped by a head in Fairyhouse and weakened in fourth over further in Leopardstown. On the balance of his form, he rates a threat. There was plenty to like about Getamotive's second place at 33/1 on debut at Cork while Champagne Kid was heavily backed on his first start at Punchestown, but didn't perform in fifth.
