The Lucinda Russell trained PRIMOZ (best priced at 10/1) looked an exciting prospect earlier on this season but following a couple of disappointing efforts he now makes his handicap debut off a mark of 117. The six-year-old cost £150,000 following two encouraging PTP runs before making a winning debut under rules over this course and distance by five lengths. The form of that looks strong with the now 130 rated I Love My Baie in second, the 126 rated Florida Dreams in third and the highly regarded Olly Murphy trained novice Indeevar Bleu in fourth.

Primoz then finished down the field on his next two starts at Haydock and Kelso but as a result now makes his handicap debut off an opening mark of 117. If a return to Ayr sparks him back to form following a break then I am sure he will prove hard to beat.

JOE COTTON (best priced at 6/4) finished well beaten on his five starts over hurdles including in handicaps but he made an impressive chasing debut at Exeter last time when well backed into favourite. The Jeremy Scott trained six-year-old won by 22 lengths on heavy ground that day off a mark of 86 and a 10lb rise seems very lenient.

Joe Cotton won his two PTPs on good to firm and good to soft ground so this return to faster ground shouldn’t inconvenience him and if he repeats his jumping performance from his chasing debut then I expect him to remain unbeaten over fences.

This looks a competitive 0-125 handicap hurdle but preference goes to CATCH HIM DERRY (best priced at 13/8) who has had the form of his latest 2nd placed effort well advertised by the winner. The Dan Skelton trained six-year-old won on his handicap debut at Southwell when upped in trip to 3 miles for the first time before finishing 2nd behind Gwennie May Boy at Bangor off a mark of 102. That rival has won twice since by 3 ¾ lengths at Uttoxeter and by 7 ½ lengths at Aintree and is now rated 24lbs higher.

Catch Him Derry runs here off only a 5lbs higher mark and he should prove hard to beat for Dan and Harry Skelton.
