Steve Ryder is back with three tips from Monday's horse racing action.
14:52 Pontefract
This looks a competitive 0-100 handicap but preference goes to BARYSHNIKOV (best priced at 9/1) who was third in this race last season. The David & Nicola Barron trained eight-year-old has form figures of 32132 at this track including when outrunning odds of 25/1 to finish 3rd in this race last season off a mark of 91.
Baryshnikov was only beaten a neck when 2nd here in September off a mark of 84 and he ran with credit on his reappearance when 4th off the same mark. The handicapper has dropped him 1lb for that run down to a mark of 83 (his lowest rating since May 2021) and he looks sure to run well back at this track.
15:42 Ffos Las
The Rebecca Curtis trained ROUGE DE L’QUEST (best priced at 11/4 (1pt) has shown improved form on his previous two starts since being applied with a tongue-tie and blinkers combination and he should prove hard to beat in this race. The eight-year-old had dropped down to a career low mark of 97 when an impressive 13 length winner at this course in March and he was unlucky to be beaten a short head when bidding to follow up at Chepstow nine days ago off a mark of 105.
Rouge De L’Quest was badly hampered by a loose horse that day so it can be upgraded and therefore a 4lb rise from the handicapper seems lenient. This return to Ffos Las will suit him well and he should be able to justify favouritism.
18:00 Kempton
DULHALLOW TOMMY (best priced at 7/2) has returned from a wind operation in fantastic form this year and the form of his latest 2nd has been boosted. The Toby Lawes trained six-year-old completed a hat-trick of wins at Plumpton off marks of 98, 105 and 108 on his first three starts over fences before finishing 2nd by 1 ¼ lengths at Newbury last time behind Rath Gaul Hill. That rival followed up at Ayr on Friday off a 7lb higher mark by 2 ½ lengths so Dulahallow Tommy looks well treated off only a 2lb higher mark.
With a record of 3/4 over fences and with that latest form boosted, this progressive gelding should prove hard to beat in this 0-135 handicap chase.
