Chinthurst sets the standard on recent form but I am willing to take a chance on HILL SPIRIT (best priced at 4/1) on his handicap debut. The Archie Watson trained four-year-old won a novice hurdle at Ludlow in January before having three low key runs on the flat over a mile when sent off 33/1, 125/1 and 150/1.

Clearly those three runs were to obtain a lowly mark of 54 and he now goes up in trip to 1m4f on his handicap debut in this weak contest. With a rating of 108 over hurdles in comparison, he should prove well handicapped and a much improved effort is expected.

Last time out winners Arch Legend, Contacto and Fouroneohfever are all respected but FILIBUSTERING (best priced at 14/1) runs here from 4lbs “well in” at the weights and has a good draw from Stall 5. The Tim Easterby trained three-year-old was well beaten on his first three start over a mile before finishing a neck 2nd on his handicap when upped in trip to 1m6f.

Filibustering was leading for the final 2f of the contest before getting headed towards the finish shaping like this slight drop in trip to 1m4½f would suit. He is due to go up 4lbs in the weights but runs here off the same mark of 63 and should be able to cope with this step up in class.

Filibustering - 0.5pts e/w @ 14/1

The Mark Usher trained CONQUEST OF POWER (best priced at 3/1) won at Lingfield in a first time visor a week ago and should prove hard to beat under a 5lb penalty. The four-year-old was a course and distance winner in January before finishing a head 2nd over this course and distance in March off a mark of 62.

Conquest Of Power won easily by 3 ¾ lengths at Lingfield a week ago racing prominently which will suit this switch to Chelmsford. The handicapper has raised him 9lbs for that success so he runs here 4lbs “well in” at the weights under a 5lb penalty and should prove hard to beat with Tyler Heard once again on board.
