Steve Ryder Ante-Post Tips

Temple Stakes (Haydock 1:50) - Regional 11/2 (1pt EW)

Only 13 entries remain in contention with the market headed by Nunthorpe Stakes winner Live In The Dream who finished 3rd in this race last season.

Australian raider Asfoora is a fascinating contender on her first start in the UK but preference instead goes to Haydock specialist REGIONAL (best priced at 11/2).

The Ed Bethell trained six-year-old progressed from winning a York handicap on his reappearance last season to beating the reopposing Equilateral in the listed Achilles Stakes over this course and distance.

Regional finished behind Live In The Dream in the Nunthorpe Stakes but made it 3/3 at Haydock with a Group 1 victory in the Betfair Sprint Cup in September when encountering good ground which is rare at that meeting.

Good ground or better is important to him so connections will be hoping that the forecast rain on Wednesday isn’t too bad but that should just mean that the course avoids watering in the run up to the meeting.

He has another possible entry over 6f in the Greenlands Stakes but the forecast looks worse in Ireland this week and given his unbeaten record at this track, it would seem unlikely that connections would run there instead.

Having to concede a 5lb penalty to the field means that Regional is available at a bigger price than I expected but he looks a solid each way selection in a race that looks sure to suit for a stable who are in good form.
