Although no winner since 2021, Aidan O’Brien remains the leading winning trainer in the Irish 1000 Guineas with 10 wins to date.

I’m taking a chance away from his market leaders for Sunday's race with the lighter-raced, BUTTONS (10/1 best price on William Hill at the time of publishing).

Irish 1000 Guineas Tips

Buttons has had a run this season to blow away the cobwebs, and has stayed on in each of her three runs to date.

It took her all of the seven furlongs on debut to get up on the line to win, staying on best, with her stablemate and subsequent Group 3 winner and Group 1 fourth in behind.

She was slow away and left with plenty of ground to make up on her second run, but stayed on to be beaten three-lengths by the re-opposing, A Lilac Rolla.

Her third run was her latest and seasonal debut, where she was carried right at the start.

The winner that day at Leopardstown, Wendla, got first run and had the smoother trip. Having already been beat over three lengths behind Buttons on their previous meeting, the form was turned around due to bad luck on the selection’s behalf.

Buttons should be ground versatile if the weather changes having ran on good and heavy ground previously. In a tight market, I think she’s overlooked and worth an each-way play.
