Both Shadowofyoursmile and Oh What Fun could also show improvement on their handicap debuts but the eye is drawn to CANDLE WAX (best priced at 3/1) who remains in training with William Haggas for the King despite only being rated 51. The son of Dubawi showed very little last season over a mile on his three starts on the AW but now returns from 161 days off the track having been gelded over the winter.
Crucially Candle Wax now steps up in trip from a mile all the way to 1m6f on his handicap debut which can hopefully bring about some improvement after a break. Connections now fit him with first time blinkers and a much better performance is expected on his handicap debut off an opening mark of only 51.

This looks a weak Class 6 0-58 handicap and the Jessica Macey trained SHARK TWO ONE (best priced at 7/2) should hold strong claims of adding another course and distance success to her record. The six-year-old won over this course and distance in October off a mark of 57 on good to soft ground before disappointing on soft and heavy ground on his next three starts.
Shark Two One appeared to relish the return to good ground when finishing 2nd here a fortnight ago off a mark of 58. The handicapper has raised him 2lbs for that ¾ length defeat which seems fair as they pulled 2 ¼ lengths clear of the third and he should now be better suited by this step back up in trip to 7f.

Many of the runners in this Class 6 0-65 handicap are struggling for form but that isn’t the case for DIAMOND DREAMER (best priced at 7/2) who arrives on the back of two wins and a second on the AW this year. The Patrick Chamings trained four-year-old needed his reappearance run at Kempton but won by a nose over this course and distance on his next start off a mark of 55. He followed up a Wolverhampton off a 3lb higher mark before finishing 2nd by a length off a mark of 62 over this course and distance last time.
The handicapper has raised Diamond Dreamer another 2lbs up to a mark of 64 but this looks a weak contest and he is expected to prove hard to beat from Stall 4 under the in-form Harry Davies.
