I thought there was a lot to like about the way BLUE DAY won on handicap debut at Southwell on return and with further improvement expected he may well be up to defying a 7lb rise. There is quite a lot of pace on which should suit and hopefully he gets a bit of cover early before staying on best in the closing stages. Cajetan has won 2 of his last 3 and could be the danger as that win over War Bride at Kempton looks good form and a further 5lb rise isn’t too taxing on the balance. Jimmy Speaking is on a hat-trick but doesn’t look entirely straightforward and another 4lb rise applies more pressure.

I’m siding with the least exposed horse in the field in the shape of STRIVE for David Simcock. He looked to need the experience on his first two starts but improved to win by a head at Newcastle when last seen. He has been given time since and returns making his handicap debut here and should be difficult to beat off an opening mark of just 67. He has a hood on to help him settle and it will be interesting to see if they try and take a lead today and settle him before picking them up. The danger looks to be Glistening Nights who left his reappearance run behind to finish third at Pontefract and should make a race of it if building on that again.
