16:15 Ayr

The Jim Goldie trained AYR POET (best priced at 4/1) outran odds of 28/1 to finish 3rd on his reappearance and he should run well dropped in class with that run behind him.

The nine-year-old is a five-time course winner with a further twelve placed efforts in his career and he looks competitively handicapped off a mark of 67 based on his previous two runs at the track which were 2nd and 3rd placed finishes of marks of 68.

Paul Mulrennan takes over on board Ayr Poet now he runs off top weight in this Class 6 0-65 handicap rather than the Class 4 0-80 handicap he contested last time and he should prove hard to beat.

Helter Skelter is respected in first time cheekpieces but the most solid horse in the field appears to be MONHAMMER (best priced at 13/2) who defied odds of 25/1 to win on his handicap debut over this course and distance. The Linda Perratt trained six-year-old has a good record over this course and distance with two wins, two seconds and a third and the handicapper has only raised him 2lbs for a neck victory here on his reappearance.

With bookmakers offering up to four places on this race, Monhammer looks sure to be involved in the finish once again over this course and distance.

This looks a competitive 0-95 handicap but preference goes to MOSWAAT (best priced at 9/1) who can be excused his reappearance run at Newmarket. The Roger Varian trained three-year-old ran well on all three of his starts last season with form figures of 313 over 6f including a victory at Yarmouth by 1 ¾ lengths.
Moswaat made his handicap debut at the Guineas meeting off a mark of 92 but didn’t handle the track at Newmarket and could only finish 8th. He drops slightly in class in this race and should run well off 1lb lower on a more conventional track.
